The Food Reserve Agency-FRA- has bought 1-hundred and 30 thousand metric tonnes of maize since the marketing seasoned opened five weeks ago.
FRA Chief Executive Officer Chola Kafwabulula says the consignment is worth 2-hundred and 87 million Kwacha.
Mr Kafwabulula says the agency has received enough money to continue buying the grain until October 31st, 2020.
He has told ZNBC news on telephone that farmers in the Northern Province have supplied 36 thousand metric tonnes followed by Luapula with 29 thousand metric tonnes.
Mr Kafwabulula said there has been overwhelming response from farmers, noting that supplying the grain to the FRA is the best way of boosting national food security.
He explained that all farmers are being paid immediately they supply the grain.
